Kurdistan Regional Government, Mas’ud Barzani. After his arrest in 2006, Majeed Ibrahim
Hamo is reported to have been subjected to torture by security (Asayish) personnel, as a
result of which he sustained a broken shoulder and was burnt all over his body with
cigarettes. The allegations of torture were raised by his lawyer during the trial. The doctor
who carried out a medical examination on him two to three months after his arrest wrote a
letter to the court stating that the results of the examination were inconclusive.

By letter dated 22 December 2009, the Government indicated that, on 27 October 2008,
Ms. Zere was transferred to the Balcali Hospital Dental Polyclinic in Cukurova/Adana. A
biopsy was performed on 6 January 2009, and she was hospitalized on 10 February 2009
owing to the presence of a malignant tumour in her mouth. She had surgery on 23 February
and 10 June 2009. During her time in Adana, and between hospital visits, she was detained
at the Karatas penitentiary establishment. She was then held at the Balcali Hospital section
for detainees, under 24-hour medical attention. She received regular food and medication,
as well as visits from the Procurator of the Republic.
On 7 November 2009, she received an amnesty from the President owing to the advanced
stage of her cancer.
