established under article 17 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women,
Meeting on 27 October 2014,
Adopts the following:
Decision on admissibility
1.1 The author of the communication is S.O., a Mexican national born on
23 January 1973, who sought asylum in Canada. Her application was rejected and,
at the time of submission of the communication, she was awaiting deportation from
Canada to Mexico. She claims that such deportation would constitute a violation by
Canada of articles 1 to 3 of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of
Discrimination against Women. The author is represented by counsel, William
Sloan. The Convention and the Optional Protocol thereto entered into force for the
State party on 10 December 1981 and 18 January 2003, respectively.
1.2 The author requested interim measures of protection in accordance with article
5 (1) of the Optional Protocol.
1.3 On 1 March 2013, the Committee granted the interim measures and requested
the State party not to deport the author to Mexico while her case was pending before
the Committee. 1
