The complainant is J.N., a national of Sri Lanka born in 1960. His request for
asylum in Denmark was rejected and, at the time of submission of the complaint, he was in
detention awaiting deportation to Sri Lanka. He claims that his deportation would be
contrary to article 3 of the Convention, as he would be at risk of being subjected to torture
in Sri Lanka. No date has been set for his deportation. The complainant is represented by
counsel.

On 17 September 2014, in application of rule 114, paragraph 1, of its rules of
procedure, the Committee requested the State party not to deport the complainant to Sri
Lanka while the communication was being considered by the Committee.
