The Committee against Torture considered the fourth periodic report of Uzbekistan (CAT/C/UZB/4) at its 1172th and 1175th meetings, held on 29 and 30 October 2013 (CAT/C/SR.1172 and CAT/C/SR.1175), and adopted the following concluding observations at its 1196th and 1197th meetings (CAT/C/SR.1196 and 1197) held on 14 November 2013. A. Introduction 2. The Committee welcomes the timely submission of the fourth periodic report of Uzbekistan and the extensive responses to the list of issues (CAT/C/UZB/Q/4/Add.2) by the State party and the representatives who participated in the oral review. 3. The Committee also appreciates the high-level delegation of the State party and the additional oral and written information provided by the representatives of the State party to questions raised and concerns expressed during the consideration of the report. B. Positive aspects 4. The Committee welcomes the ratification, inter alia, of international instruments, including: (a) The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography; (b) The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict; (c) The Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aiming at the abolition of the death penalty; (d) International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 182 (1999) concerning the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour; * Adopted by the Committee at its fifty-first session (28 October-22 November 2013).
