He sought asylum in Canada, his application was rejected and he risks deportation to Sri Lanka. He claims that his deportation would violate his rights under articles 6 (1), 7 and 9 (1), of the Covenant because he fears that he will be killed or tortured in Sri Lanka on the grounds of his past work for a non-governmental organization (NGO) that helped persons of Tamil origin. He is represented by counsel. 1.2 On 27 November 2014, in accordance with rule 92 of its rules of procedure, the Committee, acting through its Special Rapporteur on new communications and interim measures, requested the State party not to expel the author to Sri Lanka while the communication was being considered.
