- Description
- The Prison Archive (Strafvollzugsarchiv), since 2012 located at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Dortmund, was founded around forty years ago at the University of Bremen. The Prison Archive answers prisoners' letters on questions about their legal situation and possibilities of litigation. The small team answers these letters with varying voluntary participation of researchers, students, lawyers and others. From the beginning, the Prison Archive has been dedicated to research about prison law in action and imprisonment experiences. Even though initiated by prisoners' questions about the law, the communication with prisoners has always been a mutual process of learning. The prisoners' experiences and perceptions continuously influence teaching materials and methods at several universities (University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Dortmund, University of Bremen, University of Hamburg) as well as publications and political debate.
