Description
The Danish Institute against Torture is a rehabilitation and research center for victims of torture. Besides it being one of the fist torture rehabilitation centers in the world, it works also politically and juridically in order to advocate and strenghten the right of torture victims to a specialized treatment. It supports torture victims and traumatized refugees not only by rehabilitation but also by setting positive actions in the fight against torture in close cooperation with local partners, just as civil society organizations, state actors, research institutions and other relevant stakeholders. In addition to rehabilitation, the effort for instance includes: monitoring of prison conditions, legal reform work, capacity building of relevant authorities, awareness-raising campaigns, projects with regard to detention monitoring of prisons, the use of pretrial detention, state dialogues on compliance.
